Seeing red Colour modulation and photosensitive epilepsy

چکیده
what about colours? A few weeks back I was at a wedding reception. The hall got suddenly dark, and a coloured strobe light started illuminating the dance floor. I watched guests getting up on their feet to dance with the newlywed couple. Bless them. But I started feeling stressed and uneasy in my head (not least because I did not join in – largely due to my lack of dancing faculty). But the reason, I eventually realised, was the flickering colourful light. I quickly left the hall.

Is colour modulation an independent factor in human visual photosensitivity?
Considering that the role of colour in photosensitive epilepsy (PSE) remains unclear, we designed a study to determine the potential of different colours, colour combinations and white light to trigger photoparoxysmal responses (PPRs) under stringent controlled conditions. After assessing their photosensitivity to stroboscopic white light and black and white patterns, we studied 43 consecutive ...
متن کاملAnger as "seeing red": evidence for a perceptual association.
Metaphor representation theory contends that people conceptualise their non-perceptual states (e.g., emotion concepts) in perceptual terms. The present research extends this theory to colour manipulations and discrete emotional representations. Two experiments (N = 265) examined whether a red font colour would facilitate anger conceptions, consistent with metaphors referring to anger to "seeing...
متن کاملEmotional Semantic Detection from Multimedia: A Brief Overview
In recent times, with the development of many kinds of multimedia, our moods are continually being influenced by them. A change in mood is particularly anticipated when watching TV, seeing a movie, or playing an electronic game. Interestingly, multimedia may bring pleasure, tension, and even fear that audience members want to enjoy. However, inappropriate audiovisual stimuli may also cause unne...
متن کاملHow predictive are photosensitive epilepsy models as proof of principle trials for epilepsy?
PURPOSE Human photosensitive epilepsy models have been used as proof of principle (POP) trials for epilepsy. Photosensitive patients are exposed to intermittent photic stimulation and the reduction in sensitivity to the number of standard visual stimulation frequencies is used as an endpoint. The aim of this research was to quantify the predictive capabilities of photosensitive POP trials, thro...
متن کاملA neurological basis for visual discomfort.
Certain patterns of stripes are judged to be unpleasant to look at. They induce illusions of colour, shape and motion that are sometimes perceived predominantly to one side of fixation. People who suffer frequent headaches tend to report more illusions, and if the pain consistently occurs on the same side of the head the illusions tend to be lateralized. The parameters of the patterns that indu...
